The Evil Eye
Disks or balls, consisting of concentric blue and white circles representing an evil eye are common talismans found on the prows of Mediterranean boats and common place in homes for protection. Known as nazar (Turkish: nazar boncuğu or nazarlık), this talisman is most frequently seen in Turkey, found in or on houses and vehicles or worn as beads. The spreading in the belief of the evil eye towards the east is believed to have been propagated by the Empire of Alexander the Great, which spread this and other Greek ideas across his empire.
